According the 2009 New Jersey Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) survey, long term recovery programs for women have resulted in doubled rates of abstinence and full time employment among women drug addicts. These rates pertain to abstinence and employment statistics of women who have just completed their 24 month in treatment.
The report noted that an important phase that figured in the increases rates described above is a long-term program’s ability to provide services such as after care, family involvement, long-term peer support, and relapse prevention/monitoring.
Based on the findings of the study, female drug addicts are recommended to undergo at least 12 months of continued care. In answer to this, a non-profit residential rehab facility located in Costa Mesta, introduced two new treatment programs, namely the Intensive Sober Living or ISL and the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Both are long-term programs are expected to effect sustained behavioral change and higher abstinence rates among female drug addicts.
More on IOP and ISL
The Intensive Outpatient Program is a 16-week plan that is designed to provide treatment to women who need to work, attend school, and otherwise unable to attend a residential inpatient rehab program. It is an evidence-based program that address social support, family involvement, relapse prevention and other issues related to drug addiction.
Intensive Sober Living, on the other hand, is more of a transition program than a full-blown treatment plant. It is designed to prepare patients in a residential program to smoothly re-immerse themselves to their families and communities.
